Liu Dan’s ink drawings and paintings seemed almost abstract at first, however after further observation a language began to emerge.
Almost as though the landscapes were a mess of figures, they seem to beat like a muscle or some kind of organism. I saw myself drawing a lot of parallels with fantasy fiction and the images they connote.
His mark making and delicate application was wonderful to look at, and I believe I will try to consider a more careful and thoughtful approach in order to achieve the same attention to detail.
